Decades of Instability Expressed Through Camouflage - Featuring Noman Khan

Noman Khan uses camouflaged perspectives to (at times) hide, and highlight his subjects. While many people may commend him for his artistic capacity and color play, what may remain underexplored is his conscious concealment of emotions, subjects, terrain, and expressions that lay open and shut on the canvas.

His Balochi roots explain this performance quite overtly. The earthy tones he employs, draw out faces and places that remain hidden in dust and storm along the ancient Makran coast.

His work ‘Smoke Screen’ is an elaborate study of the land that birthed the artist within him. His color palette perfectly replicates the untapped, hidden, barely seen, never heard of subjects that leave you with a dull but lingering ache.

Noman art is a silent, camouflaged cry to beg your attention to the most precious land within Pakistan. His work is only a hint of the beauty that remains under a smoke screen throughout Balochistan.
